Three ladies, one big cat family
Our story began in February 2020 with a frantic call about kittens in danger. Five years and thousands of kilometres later, Cat Family Foundation is a registered NPO run by three full-time, crazy-cat-loving ladies — trapping, treating, feeding, fostering and rehoming feral cats within a 20 km radius of Randburg.
The mission hasn't changed: humane Trap-Neuter-Return, safe foster homes for vulnerable kittens, and a genuine love for the cats no one else will help. We issue Section 18A tax certificates for every donation.
Managing colonies, humanely
TNR is the proven, humane way to manage feral cat populations. We trap the cats, have them sterilised and ear-tipped, then return the healthy adults to their familiar territory as a stable, non-breeding colony — ending the cycle of endless litters.

What is a feral cat?
A feral cat is unsocialised to humans — usually born and living outdoors. They're not strays or lost pets. Through Trap-Neuter-Return they live healthy, non-breeding lives in managed colonies.
Can you sterilise or rehome my domestic cat?
Unfortunately not — our focus is feral colonies. For your own cat, please contact your local vet or a domestic-animal welfare organisation. We're always happy to point you in the right direction.
What is TNR?
Trap-Neuter-Return: we humanely trap feral cats, have them sterilised and ear-tipped, then return the healthy adults to their familiar territory as a stable, non-breeding colony. It's the proven, humane way to manage feral populations.
I've found a feral colony — what do I do?
Get in touch! Count how many cats you can see over 2–3 days, then contact us. We'll help you with trapping, sterilisation and setting up feeding and care for the colony.
When should I intervene with kittens?
Never remove kittens without sterilising the mom too. Rule of thumb: if the kitten fits in both your hands, we can remove it for fostering. If not, it should be sterilised and become part of a healthy colony. If eyes are still closed or the umbilical cord is attached, leave them — mom is nearby.
Can I adopt a cat or kitten?
Yes! Browse adoptable kittens on our Facebook page or get in touch. We'll send an adoption form, arrange a meet-and-greet, sign a forever contract, and do a home check when we drop off your new family member.
How can I help?
Donate, foster a litter, sponsor a sterilisation, feed a colony, donate food or meds, or volunteer as a trapper. Add us as your Woolworths MySchool beneficiary too — it costs you nothing. Every bit helps.
Do you issue tax certificates?
Yes — we're a registered PBO (930082254) and issue Section 18A tax certificates for donations. Email us your details after donating and we'll send your certificate.
Do you do home checks?
Yes — we do a quick, friendly home check before or when we drop off an adopted cat, just to make sure the space is safe and everyone's ready for a new family member. It's relaxed and reassuring, never an inspection.
Can I rent a trap from you?
We loan out humane traps for sterilisation (TNR) for a small hire fee, plus a refundable deposit. Just fill in our Trap Loan Request and we'll sort out collection, the fee, the deposit and a few pointers so every catch goes smoothly and kindly.
